Title: Engine management
Post by: spudmariner on 27 May 2010, 15:05:18
I'm pulling my hair out now. The engine management light isn't coming on at all and the car won't start even though it was fine the other day when the light was working. Plenty of fuel in there but no spark & no fuel coming up. Any ideas pleaseas money is now very tight. Thanks. Graham

Have you had the dash out to check/swop the bulb?

Yes, had the dash out and swapped bulb with one that definitely works and still no go. Thanks

Are all the large fuses next to the battery still all OK?

Hmmm, a baffler! Perhaps a friendly PM to Mr Wood and ask nicely for the aid of his Tech2 services would help get to the bottom of it?

Hi Graham,

Pm received. :y

What exactly do you see on the dash when you turn the key to the ignition position (I.E. what lights come on, do any flash, and do any extinguish after a few seconds)?

My thoughts are that if the EML doesn't come on at all either the engine ECU or the dash is probably not getting power.

That narrows things down quite a bit. Will have a look at the wiring diagrams later and see what exactly.

Kevin

Thanks for all your help. It turned out that the large 30 amp fuse by the battery had blown but right up in the corner & hard to see. Car now running but cutting out on braking more times than not. I'll look at that later but at least I can get to work now. Thanks again.

It was the green 30 amp fuse. I cleaned all the contacts & touch wood apart from a poor tickover, its pulling like a train now

Glad to hear it's starting now. :y

Might be worth doing a paper clip test and see if there are any fault codes stored? Cutting out sounds like perhaps a failing crank sensor or a sticking idle or EGR valve.

If you can get it to me sometime I'd be happy to take a look.
