Title: the car feels lazy after cam covers gasket change
Post by: DC on 01 June 2010, 21:08:43
Hi All! I haven't been on this forum for months due to various reasons, one of which was that Omega was working so well, but now there seems to be an issue. A week or two ago I replaced the cam covers gaskets and the car does not feel right ever since. It just doesn't pull with the same strenghth any more. Up to 2500-3000revs things are the same, but after that in the past you could really feel engine coming on song - now the acceleration is linear, if you know what I mean. At the same time I changed the gaskets I also replaced spark-plugs (GM items) and cleaned the vent pipes. Paper clip test shows no issues. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Any fault codes?

I suspect you have a multiram setup issue so check carefuly that all vac pipes are correctly connected?

Sounds to me as though there is a vacuum pipe or an electrical plug that needs to be reconnected to get the multirams working.

The favourite one to forget is the plug on the solenoid at the rear of the inlet manifold but I think that one would bring up a fault code.

No, no fault codes. Is it possible to have something electrical (related to rams) not connected and no fault codes?
I thought it possible that I didnt put all the pipes back in the right place, but am not sure how to check.

Have you read the maintenance guide?

yep but in this case of little help! what I would find the most useful is nice clear photos where each vacum pipe goes.

Or this one?

V6 engine bay vaccum pipes (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152565204)

(It took me a while to search for it due the alternative spelling of vacuum ::) )

Thanks Andy! I will try o compare this to what is actually on the car. There are two small pipes(one of which white) that go from the front to the back of the engine. It could be that I mixed those two. I am sure black pipe is currently connected to the rear rams solenoid, the white to something little tothe left of the solenoid.
