Title: Clickety tappety sound
Post by: megaomega123 on 03 June 2010, 10:11:05
Hi all.
The car is becoming increasingly noisey. Idle is good and quiet, it is only when the engine is revving, in gear and out of gear. It is very tappy. I tried some hydraulic tappet cleaner about 6 months ago but dont know if it did any good as it seems a lot noisier now. Oil is in good condition but due a change soon.
Any tips?
Any tips?

Do a couple of short mileage oil/filter changes..suggest 1k or less....with 4 x 5ltr oil and 3 filters costing less than £45 on a club card it is not such a big outlay and fairly sure that will quiten it down....well it did mine anyway.
Best of luck with it.
On the final oil fill may be worth adding some wynns treatment just incase.

I would drop the oil and pull the lower sump pan off to check the oil pickup pipe.

That will be a change every 3 weeks in my case!! However, I know you are right so I will just have to get on with it. Just got my halfords trade card too, so will compare some prices  :y

I am planning in doing the same, is there a oil sump gasket that needs to be changed too?
