Today whilst driving heard a terrible rattling noise coming from the rear o/s wheel.Pulling into a car park I proceeded to remove wheel and found somthing was loose between disc and back plate. Pushing back the back plate I found which I thouight was a small gravel stone but it looks more like a cast iron little piece. All is fine now. Could I have picked it up somewhere?

Probably mate - have had that before with stones getting caught between disc and shield.

I picked something up in the off side front coming out of a car park.
Thought the front wheel was coming off, turned out to be nothing ;)

The fact its iron worries me a little...

I have had this too ... going along minding ones buisness then a horrible screeching scraping sound from the rear ... thought it was the kids ::) but i had picked up something in the same area .
Stoppped and found nothing but a stone fell out when i reversed :y

Bit of broken handbrake pin, due to rust and/or knackered back plates where they are supposed to live, maybe?
No real worries - you can run the car fine with no handbrake pins and the handbrake still works as well (or not, ususally!) as it was meant to.

Had exactly the same problem few years ago on my CDX 2.5 turned out it was a lug off the rear brake calliper when i stripped it i found ibottom of rear spring broke as well but ill bet its the calliper lug
