Post by: Raymienets on 08 June 2010, 19:45:33
Cat was burst and some holes in exhaust so had to replace it, now drives like and old coo noisy as hell but cannot find anything wrong at the joints except were the cat joins the mid section couldnt find any gasket online so just used instant gasket could this be the problem. Anyone point me in the right direction and size of gasket for this.

Is the noise discernible when stood outside the car or is it more noticeable when actually being driven. What sort of noise you talking about. Description :question

Hard to describe really, slight vibration when stationary think it needs dropped slightly. but when driving becomes a lot more noisy like a boy racer.
when driving feels as if the clutch is slipping but was fine before I replaced everything. Could it be drawing air?.

Was the flexi Joint but decided just to replace it rather than have to get it cut out and welded back together.

Some say that the new exhausts particually aftermarket ones are noisier than original GM parts.

Problem is, most pattern cats are poo.... so if the original GM cat is ok, you can often avoid having a nasty sounding exhaust by just fixing the joint  :y

Bad choice sorry to say, costs just £15 for a replacement flexi and some time of a local welder.

As mentioned the GM cats are far superior, lot of the noise will be from pattern down pipe / cat / exhaust.

Pattern front pipes are very noisy, sound like the exhaust is blowing, worse in summer when you have the windows open and pass a wall or a parked car.
If you cant live with it look for some exhaust wrap on e-bay, often sold to reduce under bonnet temperatures. It works well if you fit it with a 50% overlap wrap. Easy to fit with the pipe off the car......bit of a sod with it on the car.
