Title: Silly jacking question
Post by: omegod on 15 June 2010, 14:23:04
I want to get the whole of the car in the air for a couple of jobs and want to use 4 axle stands. The placement of these has always got me a bit worried as I have dented floorpans before now, so :

Whats the best positions for the axle stands as I will be jacking from the sill points.

Can the back end be lifted as a whole? if so can it be jacked on the diff?

I think an underside picture with the relevant safe points highlighted would be really useful as a sticky in this section if anyone was up for doing one!

front, look at the jack point cover in the side skirt, inboard behind the sill edge is a beam/re enforced area with holes in leading to beam running for and aft. I use the the beam with holes to jack on, and place the stand on the beam for and aft.

Rear, triangular ish plate under the rear doors holds the rear donut bush, i jack in the centre of that plate and stand onkthe reinforced area inboard of there by the exhaust hanger, iirc. Larger jacks can make placing the stand there awkward as the jack may be in the way though.

I tend to avoid jacking on the dif where possible.

If we can get some photos this would be better placed in the maintenace section perhaps?
