Heard lots about and I have even seen it but what does it do, when does it do it and how does it work?
Mine does not leak but there is very little heat coming out of the heater. Not a problem at the moment but could be in the colder months assuming I ever get it back from the garage (different thread). Just as a side issue the AC compressor and condenser have also had it, yes I know, maybe it is time to get rid, but when it goes it goes great!

Hi
As the name implies, when heat is not required the valve bypasses the hot water from the engine so that it does not pass through the heater matrix. Its controlled by vacuum. No vacuum applied equals heat, vacuum applied equals no heat. (That reminds me I removed the vacumm pipe on my car last winter to get some more heat, I must go and reconnect it now!!)

Thanks for the reply, have just spent the past hour reading threads on heater / hbv / vacuum issues - I now know a lot more!
