I've bitten the bullit and booked the car ('98 2 litre petrol) into the garage next week to see what they think the problem is with the random misfire i'm getting.
Clip test shows 0335 - incorrect rpm signal
Cam and Crank Sensors have been replaced by last owner in last 18 months.
If he says it needs another crank / cam sensor am I going around in circles uneccesarily or are these sensors repeat problems in these cars?
-
....or are these sensors repeat problems in these cars?
they can be if cheap pattern parts are used ;)
-
Seems to depend on whether the crank sensor was genuine GM/Vaux last time. Apparently eBay jobbies are poor and can fail straight away. Just getting one for mine this week, and gonna go to Vauxhall for it.
Not sure about cam sensor.
EDIT: Andy B beat me, lol

Both were genuine parts.....

Well dropped it down to the garage and they had the problem diagnosed in 5 minutes - coil pack had a bare wire and was arking off the engine ::)
New coil pack 95+vat, should pick it up tomorrow - expecting it to feel a hell of a lot better to drive.

A result! (expensive result though :() :y
-
Could have been more expensive, the garage got quoted 170+vat for a spurious one! (prices are euro).
Tis small beans in the context of what the car provides as a driving / ownership prospect.

:o :o :o
Jast bought a new one for mine 70 english genuine bosch part sorted misfire straight away. :y

Sounds like your Garage knows its stuff :y
-
well got the car back and it's running a hell of a lot better, but not 100%, it still has an odd misfire and still feels dead down low in the rev range.
I've a strong suspicion its the plugs - gonna pull them out and replace them in the next week to see if it cures it. No sign of when they were last done.

Surely you mean plug lead.....as coil packs have no wires. :y
-
That's what I was thinking too.
-
didn't see it myself, maybe it was the plug lead off it but the coil pack was replaced
-
aaarrgh!! afer about 50 miles it started misfiring again pretty bad, worse on more than 1/4 throttle.
Going to change the plugs and see if that helps.....
Anyone got any clue what this could be??

Plug leads?
-
ya could be, i'll go for the pulgs first as they are cheaper. he wrapped the plug leads in insulating tape when he was changing the coil pack, will take a closer look at them this evening
-
Well finally got this sorted, changed the plugs, which didn't look that bad. The car was worse then, running as rough as a badgers arse.
The HT leads looked in poor condition, so replaced them. Bingo, running as smooth as silk now.
Cheap fix too at the end of the day - plugs and ht leads 40 euro or 35 pounds
