Title: alternator flat battery no battery light problem.

hi there need help i have an p reg 20i automatic omega which was running perfect up until other day when battery light came on then managment light when driving home my car had lost power it was driving very slow when i got home checked to see if the alternator was charging with meter and it was but when i reved it with headlghts on it blow drivers side bulb and battery light would iluminate quite bright but now my battery is dead and no battery light when other ignition lights are on pls help.. :'(

Sounds like the voltage regulator has packed up in the alternator. Get some charge into the battery and read this http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1225724099
Then paperclip it for codes stored as you say the EML illuminated and car went into "limp mode" http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1189022687
I assume you`ve checked the aux belt and tensioner pulley :question

hi rob checked belt and tension all ok but no battery light on dash could this be due to alternator that is shot or should i still get battery light with ignition on..cheers ..pal

forgot to mention when this all happend the airbag light was flickering on and off is this normal..cheers :)

I would suspect the alternator voltage regulator has died. What voltage did you see when you revved the engine?
If it blew a headlight bulb it could also have blown the ignition (alternator really)  warning lamp.
The battery could well be faulty as well, if an internal joint in the battery fails it means there is nothing to damp the alternator output which can be a cause of regulator failures. On the other hand, if the regulator fails the battery is overcharged and vents off all its electrolyte which cant be replaced as they are sealed.

hi all managed to find prob took clocks out blown battery bulb replaced it that works fine now checked all earths sound on continuity test so replacing alternator as when i started car no charge comming frm alternator at all this time so im betting on the old alt as packed checked b+ with pos of meter and put neg probe on body of alt while running no charge at all so must be shot anyway cheers guys for all u done to help will tell u the outcome soon... :y :y

Where are you?  I have 4 or 5 Alternators kicking around.  I'm in Bristol.
