Did my V6 cambelt change earlier & took the car for a nice 25 mile drive afterwards.
Lifted bonnet for ain inspection and was horrified to see that the aux belt was working its way forward and there was a gp of about 2mm at the baclk of all the pulleys. The front edge was faraying ....
Any ideas?
I rotated the crank pulley a few times after putting the belt on - all looked ok.
What have I done wrong, any chance it could be a faulty belt?
TIA

Check the PAS and crank pulley bolts are tight....and the water pump ones
-
did you check that the belt was centred on all the pulleys? If it was one ridge out on one pulley it wont self centre and would eventually wear the edge away.
-
Has the knock sensor wire got trapped behind the bracket for the spring loaded aux belt tensioner ?
-
Thanks guys.
Will it stop at some point or continue on to self destruct?
Can I trust it on a 200 mile rin tomorrow as is?

Not if its loose bolts no.....
If its poor fitting and its now rubbed the over hanging bit away then probably yes

I've just thought.
I greased the tensioner pulley as per the DVD. Does it matter which way round it is fitted? :-[
