Title: Facelift door mirrors

Can you seperate the colour coded part from a facelift door mirror,as i need to paint em. :)

ive got the same problem, the best suggestion was to get the glass out so you can get to the clips from inside, but as its a gamble whether the glass breaks or not i decided to just mask them up carefully, & if your luck is like mine i suggest you do the same. ;D :y

Yep,my luck is as bad yours alf,aint changed my user name for nothing. ;D

they are a bit fiddly to mask up, especially where the black lip joins the rear cover (the bit around the glass apature), im half tempted just to mask the glass & the black bit that meets the door & paint the rest. :-/

no,although ive got a rear bumper that needs painting as well, why do you ask? im talking about the mirror, the bit that vanishes behind the glass is black, & to mask it up on that piddly rounded lip is a pain, look at a mirror & youll see what i mean :y,

With the whole mirror off the car you need to remove the mirror glass then IIRC you have to reach in and unclip (four clips - so you need four hands!) the cover from the black plastic 'frame'. It was a while ago when I had to do it do apologies if i'm not 100% accurate.

Having recently refurbished an Elite mirror (which I will want to sell on my return from USA) I found that you can get the cover off without removing the mirror from the car. Its a bit fiddly but can be done with the aid of a fairly long thin screwdriver and a torch (plus three hands or a helper!!) Either manually or electrically make sure that the mirror glass is pointing down as far as it will go. This will then leave a small gap between the top of the glass and the mirror housing. By shining the torch into this gap you will then see the top two clips that hold the coloured cover in place. Insert the screwdriver blade carefully and release each clip by levering with the screwdriver whilst keeping some downward pressure on the the coloured cover with the palm of your hand. Be careful in doing this as you are levering against the edge of the mirror glass and too much pressure on this will have unfortunate consequences!! Repeat the above with the mirror glass tilted upwards and release the two lower clips. Finally spring the the whole mirror housing towards the rear of the car to release the cover completely. I did find that it was also possible to release the other small coloured part as it is almost impossible to do a proper masking job on this. There are three small recesses if I recall correctly, one underneath the mirror, one right at the edge of the top of the moulding and one in the middle. With a small watchmakers screwdriver and some judicious careful levering it is possible to release the clips that hold this moulding and then spray it and refit.

Mine got knocked off by an unknown driver and it came apart pretty perfectly. Can't remember how it went back together but was quite simple.
If in doubt give it a clout  ;D

I took one apart with no problem, went back together a treat too. when I tried to do the same to the other one, I had problems & Chickened out, it was just that little bit "tighter", so I touched it up instead. (Oooh errr Missus). A mate of mine has a Silver pair if you break any.
