Title: ABS Problem
Post by: Big Bri on 06 July 2010, 20:05:57
My ABS and TC lights are on and the speedo not working, but my power steering is working fine, at first it was happening intermittently but now it is on all the time, could this mean that it is just an ABS sensor or could it possibly be the ECU. I have tested the resistance on the two front ABS sensor and the readings were 1533 and 1496Ohms which isn't really a big difference so it leads me to believe those two sensors are fine. I was going to use my "My Naff Code Reader" to do a diagnostic but my cable became damaged while it was in the cupboard so I couldn't do the diagnostic.

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply, I know that the ECU has to be from a car with the same engine but does it have to be from a car with the same transmission aswell?

Thanks

Yup, else it will need reprogramming via tech2.

Also, it needs to be from same era, as minifaclift and later are proper 4 channel units.

Thanks, I've just been looking at it but it needs to be from a manual car.

If you can't find a "pre owned" one .. you could have your present one repaired.

Costs around £130 ( a lot less than a new one !!) and does not need reprogramming as it already "knows" the car

I used BBA-Reman - 01634 687222   worth giving them a ring for the latest prices.

There are other repairers as well .. Mark DTM uses someone else .. but I can only speak as I find .. and I was well pleased with BBA ... got me out of a hole quickly and easily .. :)
