Title: Alarm clarity needed
Post by: MV6Matt on 04 July 2010, 19:13:08
...........at the risk of incurring loads of groans about alarms going off all the time threads, I need some help with what alarm is called what and how it is disabled.

6 years ago when I got the meega, the horn activated alarm kept going off and hazards would come on as the horn sounded (Barp, barp, barp  - if you see what I mean..)
Hood switch problem. Sorted. Never have that problem any more.

in last 2 months and now at the stage where it's going off every 5 minutes is the alarm that sort of whistles (weeeoooo- weeeeoooo). No hazard light and doesn't respond to anything. Goes off when car stationary and locked, stationary and engine running, when doors opened, when doors are closed and when you're driving along.

So which alarm is which and how do you disable the latter one (above)? Is there a quick fix that will enable me to survive til tomorrow without being murdered by my neighbours............... :-[ :-/

Your help please, folks......

Hi folks - it's all done - luckily my sounder connection was on the side so just pulled it out (didn't have to take it out of the bracket - result!!!!)
Silence in our road tonite!

Zulu - glad you liked my sound effects - you knew what I meant then!

I got my '99 Omega a few months back and both the power sounder and the regular 'horn' for the alarm were disconnected... I reconnected them (against the advice of more learned folk) and have had absolutely no issues whatsoever. No false alarms, no fires, nothing. The alarm functions exactly how it did when the car left the factory!

If you want to try a different power sounder in your vehicle then you are welcome to my old one for the price of postage (free if your local to W-ton).

Lots of other parts on it also... :y

Jim's concern was that they might still be a danger if after unplugging.

- must admit to checking one I'd heard about was still stone cold and didn't need leaving in a bucket of sand !
