Hi folks
Just got back from OZ been there for 6 months
Car is using loads of water no visible signs of a leak do you think the head gasket is suspect here?
2.5 V6 facelift and anybody around Bournemouth fancy fixing it for me?
Regards
Jim

Very unlikely to be head gasket. Check the heater bypass valve first. :y

Usually when the head gasket does go, the car starts to missfire/splutter etc because water will be going into the cylinder and puts the spark out in effect.. so may fire on 5....
Is your car doing that??
If you can't see any water leaking can you smell it when the car is warm?
It could be leaking in say the V of the engine but with it being hot under there evapourating :y
How much water are you losing?

Sounds like HBV leak to me, check around the back of the engine for pipe off or split HBV due to plastic going brittle.
oh....HBV ,......Heater Bypass Valve, black and has 3 pipes going into it, if you were not familiar, sorry.

OK lot of heat coming from under the car, no loss of power, no visible signs of leaking, about 2 pints per hundred miles (maybe). Temperature climbs quickly but fans keep it in check.
Mate is having a look on Saturday will let you know of further developments
Thanks for the advice

HBV as said, a £30 part at the back of the engine. See the guide in maintenance section.

Very unlikely it's HG... Don't take the head(s) off until you have definite proof from a compression test ;)
