Many thanks to Elite Pete who supplied me with a B Bolt following various fettling on my car last week.
We replaced the thermostat but couldn't complete the job due to the B bolt on my car not being in place. So yesterday afternoon was spent joyously fitting said fixing ::)
So, question is, why would anyone actually want to remove said bolt?
The only reasons I can see are to get to the stat, the dipstick and the engine lifting point?
Do you need to get the stat out to change the oil cooler? Thats previously been changed and would explain things.
Other than that I'm at a loss as to why it was removed.
TIA ......... Robert

Could the stat have been changed at some point previously, and a dodgy mechanic couldn't be bothered?
-
I suppose its possible Jamie, but the stat we removed had a date stamp that was a few months older than the car so I suspect it was original.
The oil cooler was replaced, could that have been been anything to do with it I wonder?
-
No need to remove stat to do cooler, but possible it was resealed if it was weeping?

Whats a B bolt?

Whats a B bolt?
Errr, uhmmmm, we cannot say without breaking forum rules.
Its a normal torx bolt that is best described as 'fiddly' due to its location. Oh, and it's parentage is questioned ::)

Whats a B bolt?
Think along the lines of The New Statesman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Statesman)

It's an Alan bolt, not to be confused with an Allen bolt. ;D

I'll be round shortly with your coat!!!! ::) ::) ::) ::)

It would be very easy to get to - if the engine were not in the vehicle!
Hopefully wont have to do one for a while yet!

Nah, PAS pipe would still present a small challenge ;)
Rachet spanners are the key to this...

I was assuming the PAS pipe had been removed.
Ratchet spannet was great - after the thread had caught .......
