I have just had my 2 feyfobs repaired and one of them is still not working. It's Red LED flashes which must mean the battery is good but it will not open/lock the car. I was told that the fob may need to be re-syncronised by putting it in the ignition and switching it on and the pressing the button about 2-3 times (which should lock/unlock the central locking). I tried this method 3 times over this morning and sadly it still does not operate as it should. Could there be any other reasons for this? All three microswitches click like new.
-
has that one ever worked with the car?
-
one of the keys that came with my Astra shed does similar. The led lights up every time but when shown to a transmitter tester doesn't actually produce a signal.
-
It does broadcast, but the battery holder was off.
It has a refitted battery holder, 3 new switches, and it did broadcast on 433 920 as it should.
I assumed all it would need is resyncing, however I now get the feeling it will need to be recoded to the car.

Try Turning ignition on but don't start the car, turn it off and remove the key and hold it near the sensor near the interior light ane press the button for a few seconds.

this method is for the old infrared type ;)

Any more ideas for Les?
They were both broadcasting and both refurbished, so SHOULD be OK.
One does work, for the other we can try.
1) Resync again.
2) Remove refit battery and try resync.
3) Ask an auto locksmith to match to the car.
4) Visit an OOF Tech II to match to car.
Finally did both work the car previously?

From the OP ... "one of them still not working" .. I'm guessing it might never have worked ... probably needs a chat with a Tech2.. :(

They will - they are brand new heavy duty 4.5 Newton ones.
As Entwood says - I think one has never worked with the car.

Is the transponder microchip still attached correctly inside the key? It may have fallen out when the OP refitted his key blade??:-?

Not relevent for this particular issue - transponder only used for immobiliser...

Keyfob has not worked since i became owner due to being already broken (microswitches). Thank you all for your advice.

Got the same problem, tried everything including checking for lose wires etc, great job done by Martin, can fully recommend.
As above the keys used to work, but now zilch!
Even when pushing the drivers door knob down does not lock off the rest of car, getting really frustrated............Grrrrrrrr :'(

Nowt to do with the key then ... either the contact in the drivers door servo motor or the central locking control unit.
Check the control unit has not come unplugged ..
Removal
2 Remove the trim panel from the right-hand
front footwell.
3 Release the catch and disconnect the
wiring from the bottom of the control unit.
4 Unscrew the mounting nuts and remove the
control unit from the vehicle.
Refitting
5 Refitting is a reversal of removal, but tighten
the mounting nuts securely.
and check the wires as they go from the body through the door ... not unheard of to chafe and suffer damage .. :(

I am monitoring this thread.
I have had 2 or 3 failures total since I started repairing.
One was a huge chunk of missing PCB.
I have had to reflow the main chips quite regularly.
One similar to Les and Pauls problem was as follows.
Broken for long time fob, I had to basically rebuild with battery holder and switches.
Sent it back, resync failed.
They went to an auto locksmith and they re-paired it to the car.
If there are any actual faults with the repair I will reimburse.
All of the fobs in this thread left me with broadcasting signal.
Could it be to do with fob being unpowered for a few months?

Hi Martin
The key fob,was unlocking the boot,up until last week and then just stopped!
Nothing to do with you,it stopped before I sent it.
It was after I had the exhaust fitted and then the HBV sprang a leak and we replaced that.
Just seems strange, that they were working, one opened, one locked, then stopped, but both opened the boot, then both stopped.
Will have a look at Ent's suggestion, but then I drive the things,my DIY skills are all but hopeless!!
Will have a look and re-post.
Thanks.
Paul
PS.This forum is fantastic, never knew there were so many helpful people out there, cheers guys. ;)
