hi everyone changed discs and pads and now have a rattle seems that passenger side caliper has a bit of play when brakes not applied anyone had same problem or know whats wrong
thanks dave
-
Fronts or rears?
Seized/stuck caliper piston, seized slide(s) on front.
-
front, not seized as they work ok took out sliders and greased when refitted all seemed ok
-
did you put the rattle plates in when doing the brakes?
-
whats rattle plates
-
"Rattle" or "Anti-rattle" plates not normally supplied with modern brake pads - Vx pads have rubber anti-rattle backing on back.
Are the little spring clips on front edge of pads correctly located?
-
i think so will check when i get chance
-
I have exactly the sameproblem on my car at the mo! think i mite just buy a set of pads and see if that makes a difference?
-
Any outcome yet on this problem?
-
Worn calliper sliders?

Worn calliper sliders?
That would get my vote! :y

Its not the case in my same problem m8, sliders are absolutely fine.

Op states there is calliper play when brakes not applied, either the bolts are loose or the sliders are worn giving play.
-
Ive triple checked these, the bolts are done up as tight as possible, and the sliders are all greased and move in and out fine. i am really stuck with this, i cant see why its doing it, i havent been able to get a set of pads yet to see if its that thats causing it in some way. :(

Sliders are designed to move in the calliper piston direction, if worn they move in the wheel direction as well for and aft. This allows them to rattle or clunk over bumps.
Also consider wheel barings, top shock mounts, steering knuckle, failed wishbone bushes, track rod ends, steering idler etc

Noise has been diagnosed by a garage to be the caliper, when u hit with ur hand on the caliper it clunks, so i know its that area.
-
Ok, just been out and pulled apart my brakes, gave them a clean out whilst i was there, and noticed the spring clip on the top of the inner pad was partly broken, just 2 metal stalks left! lol, so i bent them a little to try and sit better in the caliper, put it all back together and took it for a test drive, and the noise has at last stopped!! so tommorow im gunna go buy a new set of pads! wahey me. lol
-
So much for the garage diagnosis then >:(
-
Well they were partially correct, they were asked to locate the noise (i cudnt afford to get the possible work done) just wanted to know where it was comin from so i cud look myself. :D
