What is the usual fix for the door strap coming away from the A pillar?

The links below provide some useful information. Its probably worth doing the door bush first to see if that cures things and it only takes a minute. If this dosn't do the trick then try the reinforcement plates as in the 2nd link

It's coming away from the A pillar. The above fix is for the door itself.  ;)

I'm going to have to agree with the student ...... again!  :-?  :-?  :-? You need a welder, although one I've seen where it needed work, I reckon you'd need to dig a little to find something decent to weld to.  :-?  :y  :y

thames valley workshop had roughly welded the one on mine after someone had opened the door a bit enthusiastically. ::) it has started to tear away from the post again. :( think i'll remove it from the pillar, weld a plate over the hole and the re attach the check strap. that should sort it once and all. :)

That's the proper way to do it :y

I have done two now with pop rivets and they are still good. Just drill out the spot welds and then use a good size pop. ;)

My miggy was recalled for this problem in 2003 and the dealer done a full replacement of the strap. They welded all the way around the replacement parts on the a pillar "to stop it breaking again" it's now starting to break away again and needs welding. I took it back to the dealer and although it is now 7 years and 55k miles since it was done they said they would do it again for £25 + vat.
