Just been thinking on the journey from home to Brighton. My car runs at just under half on the gauge when in the cruise but if it's worked hard/stop start traffic the needle goes up alarmingly quickly towards the 100 mark. Now I know that my gauge over-reads by about 3-4 degrees so it's not a major concern and the fans cut in as they should and keep it all in check but it didn't do it until the last couple of months.
I'm starting to think that perhaps the electric pump (on the N/S of the Rad) may be Fubared and having an adverse effect on circulation. Any thoughts? Not had a chance to test it as the idea only popped into my head today ::)

25 odd views and not a single thought/comment :'( :'(
Not sure if that means I'm barking up the wrong tree or not :-/ ::)

when you last time clean your radiator from outside??
-
before the holliday with the fear of mountains I changed thermostat.. (washed the radiator with chemicals also few months ago)
But was still high in heavy traffic.. They say (mechanics) up to redline (except) you can drive..
okidoki ::)
On the road to Fethiye full throttle and on mountains I have seen 102-103 Celcius with AC on..
Nothing happened.. :-? :)

Is your engine undertray still in place?
-
I'd be looking at cooling inefficiencies rather than that small electric pump that does precisely sod all.... ;)
(assuming the slow speed fans are actually kicking in correctly, if not, check fan switch)

Not as daft a suggestion as it sounds, I notice the same symptomns when the top radiator trim is removed :y

Fans working as they should, rad flushed recently, all parts present.
Got me baffled :-/ :-/

Yes, can make a degree or so in cooling difference, it aids the airflow :y

Logic says temperature sensor, lazy thermostat or scaled up radiator. Has the car had regular coolant changes in its 11 years?
Perhaps use a infrared thermometer to verify it's actually approaching 100C?

Have you changed the thermostat at all Paul?
The reason I ask is I know I have read on here that thermostat's don't fail closed, but, I have seen 3 which all gave the same problem.

Haven't been ars*d to refit my undertray for 18 months. Despite towing a loaded small trailer up fearsome hills in mid 30Deg C heat the temp never goes beyond 100. I can see the logic behind it so I have put it on the bottom of the to do list!

The aux. coolant pump only runs when the engine is stopped, IIRC, so it's not that.
