Title: Quick brake question
Post by: johny5 on 24 July 2010, 16:59:43
Im just fitting these EBC ultimax pads on my car and when i went to put them in they are so tight either side that they need to be pushed in hard to sit right, all the dimensions are the same as the old ones although the sides of the old ones have worn abit obviously where its been moving in and out of the caliper.

Should i clean up the pad carrier so the pads just slot in freely or shave abit off the pad? I take it they should slot in and be able to move freely?

Many thanks  :)

There always seems to be a build up of brake dust and rust where the pads sit in the caliper.

A quick scrape using a razor blade or the blade from a Stanley knife should sort it. Maybe scrape the paint off the edge of the pads too.

You shouldn't need to remove any fresh metal though.
