Title: V6 oil filter - access
Post by: I_want_an_Omega on 25 July 2010, 12:34:56
Ok,

so I'm going to change my oil filter - I've never done one on a Mig before.

Its a metal filter - not a paper element one.

I've got access under the car and can get access to remove the filter using a long handled oil filter wrench tool.

My question is - it looks to me like I will need to crank the steering to one lock or the other to move the tie bar out of the way to get access. But which way -  forward or back?

Do I then do it up tight with one hand or two, or do I use my wrench to tighten it up?

Comments appreciated.

"One hand-tight" should be enough if you can get a good grip, otherwise use both hands. Remember to put a smear of oil on the rubber seal.  :y

Because the filter is so small on these,I find that I can usually undo them by hand if use a 1/4 of sheet of medium grade wet or dry paper between hand and filter to provide grip. Use this method to tighten it if your hands are slippy :y
