Title: Help/advice please for 4cyl Omega with water leak
Post by: SJKOO01 on 28 July 2010, 21:11:33
Hi,

Have a water leak which is minor at the moment.  It's on a Petrol 2.2 2001 facelift.

It seams to be coming from a part of the cooling system I think ?.  And what looks like from a small remote brake servo, with a small cable coming out of the top of the unit ?.  :-?
It's situated on the left rear side of the cylinder head (as your looking at the engine), and has two pipes underneath the unit that seam to be part of what looks like the cooling system ?!.

I'm trying to find out what it is, and if anyone has had to remove this unit, and which is the best way to remove it, as there isn't a lot of space to work in the area because of so many pipes.  So is it better to remove it from underneath the car ??.  :-?

If I can, I'll try to take some photos tomorrow if I can get a camera in there ?!.  But for now just wondering if anyone has had any clue what it is, and the best way to get at it ?.

Thanks.

HBV - Heater Bypass Valve. Common fault, scuttle off and change it, easier if you have "Girlie" hands.  ::)

Yours will be the three port one (on the left).

Read this, same prep work to access HBV http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1193594464
Easier from under car but needs to be raised quite high to get both arms/hands up to HBV

Yes, looks like the one on the left.  Do you know if it's a part that you can do without, or is a case of you 'do' need to replace it ?.

Any one had any experience in replacing one of these on a four cylinder, and are there any tips for easier removal and refitting please ?.

Also is there anywhere I can get a decent replacement for this, or is it a dealer part only ?.

Rob G,

Thanks for the link to the 'How to', will read it and then probably try and tackle it soon as I can now.

You can do without it but you will have constant heat to the cabin. Get genuine from VX about £35. Done mine (2.2) from engine bay took 45 minutes including draining and re-filling system

Edit; Part #90566947

Thanks for that Rob.
Suppose £35 isn't too bad seeing as it's from the dealers.  Bet I couldn't get this part Trade price though with the trade card ?. ::) .

Well if it doesn't rain, looks like I know what I'm going to be doing this weekend ?  :y

Don`t think it`s on TC. Whenever I buy anything I always ask if it`s on TC, if not they tend to still give me a bit off :)

Very easy on the 4 pot Matt, if you can get one I'll do it for you and sort your airbag light at the same time ;)

:y

P.S. it'll have to be Saturday or before if you do want it doing as I'm off on my jollies ;)

Hi Lee,

Would you be able to come over here and give me a hand to do the jobs please.  As not sure that the valve would last with me driving over to your place.  I'm carrying 5 litre bottle of water about to made do till I get it done, so not driving too far at the moment. Luckly I don't work too far !.

Cheers  :y
