Title: omega alarm
Post by: bobo19652007 on 31 July 2010, 12:15:52
My omega 2.5 V6 alarm has started going off when I am trying to start the car. The car will start but the battery seems to be sluggish while trying to turn the engine over. Once started seems to be ok. Also the alarn has started going off randomly during the night only stopping when disconnecting the battery lead.

Please can anybody help me with this problem?????

Your alarm going off randomly usually means one thing, your power sounder has give up.
Common problem on the Omega after a few years use.

Here's a guide below to disconnect. They are available to replace still (I think) from the dealers.

Many disconnect and forget about them but, then you have no audible alarm. Think about that re insurance purposes.

i have had a similar problem on my 3.2 elite it was faulty interior light switch the one where you switch the exterior lights on sometimes it would switch the interior light on with no-one in the car i never fixed the problem itself i used to just make sure the light switch was pushed in when i left the car. The alarm must have been sensing a volt drop and setting off, may be worth a look along the lines of this or something similar

When one cell failed in my main battery I was getting sluggish starting and the alarm going off randomly when I started the car. Fitting a new battery stopped both of those problems.

I'm not saying that you don't have a faulty power sounder. You might have a faulty one that is flattening the battery or both power sounder and battery might be faulty.

Read this Battery, charging and starting diagnosis (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1225724099) first but bear in mind that a faulty power sounder could potentially incinerate your car when it fails. :o
