Hi,
Is there an easy way, or a good way of removing the silver vauxhall omega badges from the boot lid?
I would like to totally debadge the car (apart from the actual circular vauxhall logo on the boot lid), however some people have told me that the paint work gets wrecked.

I've done it a few times, and recently; 2 days ago.
All you need is either a pen knife or an old credit card, simply just prise the letters off. You'll then be left with the glue residue. A bit of white spirit on a cloth and it helps move some of it. Then use the credit card again to scrape most of it off. Then T-Cut or polish the rest of it off and polish again to remove all traces. Works fine for me, I then re applied new badges and they stick just as they should do.

I have always used either Surgical Spirit, £1:30 from the chemsits or Gun Cleaner/Panel Wipe from the motor body shop suppliers. Do not be tempted by some I have seen using a green kitchen pad!
Both work equally well and there is no need for, wet and dry paper, cutting compount, T-Cut or any other compound afterwards.
The only thing you have to do is as already told, carefully prise of the old badge work and a hair dryer does a great job of making that easy too.
Must have done dozens of them over the years and never damaged any paintwork yet.

I have just done this too ... mooched some panel wipe of a local body shop .... came of easily with a bit of effort and polish .... no trace of them being there remains :y

Just to add, I would borrow a hairdrier, and use on a hot setting. Or keep pouring some hot water over the badge to sofen the addisive. Makes it that little bit better to take the badge off without ripping any paint off. ;)

Hi,
Best way i found of removing the badges without any chance of scratching or damaging the paint is to get a strong bit of nylon fishing line, just pull it across under the badge and it will cut thru the spongey part and just leave the adhesive needing removed and cleaned up. :y

Remove the lettering with a plastic spreader card (the type you get with car body filler).
The remainder of the glue can be easily removed with Lighter Fluid (petrol type). It wont harm the paint. Just apply liberally, and rub in with your fingers. After the rubber/glue has been saturated, it will easily wipe off with a cloth.
(I used to apply and remove vinyl from wagons/vans/cars) Lighter fluid is what we used!

As mentioned earlier in the thread mate,most effective to heat it up,and roll your finger along it,and it should just peel straight off,well it did for me anyway ;D.Just done mine aswell,along with the griffin on the boot,but had to fill a couple of holes with that one,but having the complete car painted anyway. :)

I always use a hairdryer (gets some odd looks mind) gently work the badges until they come off then get some "Stick Stuff Remover" from Halford's. It's really good and the sticky stuff left just comes off with a body work filler tool or a crdit card if you are carefull.
Just take it easy and don't get pee'd off and start going at 'em!
I have also used panel wipe and this is good too.
The last car I did was my 06 vectra. It's a black car with badges on the paint and a chrome strip and using these methods you cannot even tell there were badges on either of these.

An old bank card so you dont scratch the paint while pouring hot water over then to loosen the glue

Had some monster blisters in the past doing this,looked like i was growing an extra finger at times. :D.Also forgot to mention mate,theres always a fudge wheel you can buy for a few quid,which you stick in your drill,never used one myself,but have heard it makes light work of it. :y
