Post by: greenman on 04 August 2010, 12:03:43
Renewed gasket yesterday.Spark plug recesses full of oil and I mean full.Dried out and fitted new gasket as per forum.Torqued up bolts in sequence. Is this normal or have I more problems?

Did you clean the breathers too?

if they are blocked it causes excess pressure forcing oil out.

Or, there is an issue with your gaskets / sealant etc

Were they GM parts?

The plug wells full of oil is normal when the camcover gaskets leak but as Jimbob says you really need to clean the breathers or the new gaskets won't last very long :(

Now I reread, im not sure if you have a problem or not...

If you HAD oil, then cleaned breathers, and renewed gaskets etc, and plugs are now clear, then job (should be) done.

If they have leaked again already, then you have problems, such as detailed previously.

If you mean is it normal to have oil in plugwells when gasket has gone, then yes.

Checked today all plug recesses dry.Cleaned breathers and yes I used black sealant as per guide. It was just a bit of a shock to see so much oil in there.Thought I would have had a misfire with the oil in there. Thanks to all.
