Hi Guys,
Long time no see, have been incredibly busy.
Am getting there with the Estate, but have a strange issue.
The ABS/TC light keep coming on together.
When they come on, I lose speedo and PAS either goes very heavy, or very light.
It would appear first thing in the morning, it's OK, and the fault comes after driving a while. Sometimes, the speedo springs into action and the lights go off while driving - it's intermittent, but more often than not, the fault is there.
When the fault does not exist, I can connect to the ABS Ecu with "My Naff Code Reader", and no fault codes are stored.
When the fault exists, I cannot connect to the ECU, it just times out.
This makes me think ECU fault?
Though, if ECU faulty, would it really be intermittent?
I had a quick look underneith the OSR wheel and can't even see a sensor (will need to raise it).
If it is the ECU, has anyone got one please? Am nervous about taking it on, I hate fiddly jobs.

Going from others experiences of a failing ABS ECU, I would say that you have the classic symptoms of a failed ABS ECU :( :( :(

From reading the Forum it would appear that this is a common issue with the Omega, remedy is usually repair or replacement of the A.B.S. E.C.U.
Have a search in the 'maintenance' or 'common issues' areas of the Forum, I seem to remember that it is portrayed as being a fiddly job...

It's fiddly, but doable (last time I used the phrase "with patience" I got jumped on!! ;D).
There's an excellent "How To" here - see http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152729807
Whip it off, bag up the connectors (so you can carry on driving the car), send it off to http://www.ecutesting.com/ or http://www.bba-reman.com/uk/index.aspx or similar, pay them c£130, wait a couple of days, and refit it.

Its a PIGGY to do, but straightforward (arn't most things on a miggy???)
will take you an easy hour and a half to remove and refit though.........

It's probably not worth fitting second hand parts but if you were in the market for a known working part then my car was a 1999 3.0 auto...

It took me that long to re-fit mine - but about double that to remove it. It's amazing how much time is lost trying to figure out how to get little niggly bits done. One example that I came across is disconnecting the main elec plug on the ECU itself. Now I know how the locking slide works it would take seconds, but when I didn't know it probably took me 20 minutes or so!!)

Absolutely classic symptoms. I have had this twice now with my car. Works fine for a few minutes first thing, then stops. On comes the light No speedo, no cruise, heavy steering. then the steering comes back, then goes. Nothing for an hour then suddenly speedo comes back for 5 mins. then goes and 30 seconds later the light is back on.
You just need a good selection of tools. It helps to know where the bolts are by looking at a unit already off the car.
I allow half a day but to a man of your dexterity and experience two hours tops!!

It is a fiddly job, and I still need a volunteer to do my friends as the MOT is due! CASH paid (I have a replacement), Manchester area, PM if anyone wants a foreigner.

I fitted a s/h unit bought off someone on this site and it's still going fine 12 months on. Needs to be the right model or re-programmed with Tech2.
