Title: V6 Cats question
Post by: I_want_an_Omega on 16 August 2010, 08:56:16
3.0 '99 V6 auto - 75,000 miles

When the wishbones were being done by a pal with a ramp I had a chance for a good poke about underneath prior to the MOT.

I noticed that the exhaust down pipes to the cats were slightly damaged - with the pass side being worse than the drivers side.

The pipe seems to be double layer insulated before the cat itself, and it's this outer layer that has either rotted away or been victim to some damage. The pipe itself is fine and you can see the layer of insulation between the thin outer layer and the inner pipe. The MOT tester said it was fine, but I was just wondering what the purpose of this section was and whether damage in this area was "normal".

Thanks guys
