Title: Rear end whine
Post by: Shaman61 on 17 August 2010, 08:19:26
Just started getting a low level whine from the rear of the car that only becomes audible above 60 mph. Has anyone had a problem with the diff or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks in advance for any response.

yes could well be the dif, check the oil level.

does it ease off when cornering?  if so could be a rear wheel bearing.

Most likely culprit is rear wheel bearing.

Had similar issue with mine last year..very noticeable above 55mph on smooth road ??(not alot of them around here)..when turned steering wheel slightly to left noise would go and then back to straight and would reappear.

Part is about £30-£40 but a real nightmare to replace..you need a press so might be a garage job.

My diff has had a slight whine between 55 - 65mph since I bought it over 3 years ago. Fluid levels have been checked regularly and it's never got any worse.
