sorry guys. i asked this question in the middle of my other post and shouldn't have!
When i remove the sump (so i can clean the oil pickup etc.) is there a gasket to re-use or replace or do I have to apply vx black sealant to the sump before offering it back up?

There is a gasket and from memory it is approx £26 from VX. I don't know if you can not fit one and just use some sealant.

Use the grey sealant as used on the oil cooler plate, degrease both faces with cellulose thinners first.
The joint is too thin for the black stuff to work / survive well.

Grey? I thought the guy behind the parts counter @ VX said he had Black or Green?!?
I must be going mutton ;D Mind you i did explain that it was for the sump and he said black.......

I was sold grey for mine, it comes in a tube like silcon / mastic does & goes in a skeleton gun. :y

Like already said it is the Grey Sealant :y
I have removed my sump and casting from the bottom of the block as I had a leak there :o
Another thing is I am leaving it over night for the sealant to go off so I would recommend you do the same :y

Upto engine number 08300418 there are two gaskets on the sump assy.
The alloy section that bolts to the block has an Oring type gasket, 9128256 and the lower belly pan steel sump has a metal/rubber gasket, 90469379. Normaly these don't need sealant but if they do use the black RTV 90485251
From engine Number 08300419 the gaskest were deleted and you just use the grey sealant, 93165267

just got back from Vx at lunch. Man behind counter says mine is grey sealant only, so that's what i've bought.
Here hoping the weather holds for when i get home after work!

There is a bulletin in TIS which states when repairing to bin the rubber seal (upper sump to block) and just use sealent as per the later engine types.

Could do but the early upper sump has the grove for the gaskets to fin into where as the later one doesn't
so you'll need alot of sealant.
There is an engine number change on both parts of the sump and with the lower sump it does say if your replacing the pan to use the later type with the grey sealant, if its the early one and your just replacing then you can still buy/use the gasket
Now this is all according to EPC so TIS could be telling you something completely different, which isn't unheard of.
i would say that the parts guys can only go by there EPC and as long as they know what they are reading??? you shouldn't have a problem. Normaly if there is a Tech Bulletin then EPC will have a note of it to refer to but in this case there isn't
