Title: how to clean headlamp unit?
Post by: 24_Valve on 21 August 2010, 23:53:03
Recent MOT listed my drivers side headlamp cover as an advisory item: Offside front direction indicators slightly discoloured [1.4.A.2d]Bulb is fine but there is a brownish/yellow film over the outside perspex cover. it's not misted up inside & washing the outside won't shift it... was thinking of using some carb cleaner to shift it but don't want to ruin the perspex (or are they glass  :-? ) any ideas, welcome... Don't like having any advisory items  >:( nice clean pass is much better :)

I also had an advisory notice for dull headlamps, when my car failed for other reasons. After some remedial work,  a pass with no advisory notice.   I used T-Cut on mine. Came up a treat.

There is a more aggressive aproach in the Maintenance Guides.

Dont use carb cleaner, it wont do any good but it might make things a lot worse.

My headlights came up lovely after a machine polish with some Farecla, works much more quickly than T-cut...
