Title: Omega 3.0 auto problem over 2000rpm
Post by: paulyeah on 21 August 2010, 14:25:35
Hi fellow omega owners.

I have a 1994 3.0 elite omega that has developed a problem. In the last few days if I went over 3000rpm the engine spluttered as if you were rapidly blocking then unblocking fuel. Since yesterday this now happens at 2000rpm so I am stuck at being the slowest accelerating person ever. If I keep the engine below 2000rpm it runs fine. I have no mechanical experience so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Hi

The car had a full service with oil flush approx 2 months ago. Only done about 1000 miles since the service. I am not 100% sure but I dont think the fuel filter was replaced.

Thanks for quick response

Paul

I'm not convinced there'll be any fault codes but it's a worthy starting point... Do a "Paperclip Test" as listed in the guides and post up the results :y

Sounds daft I know, check the condition of the back box on the exhaust, if the baffles  has collapsed then the horse hair suffing tends to block the out let pipe.

Hi Paul, not really related to your problem but, as a point to note, my belief, and what apears to be the general belief on here is that it is a bad idea taking your car to a garage to get it serviced, you could do a much better job, for cheaper doing it yourself. From my experience garages, including main dealers can't be trusted to have done work they say they have, imcluding things so minor and routine as servicing.

Thanks for all your replies.

The car had new cats around 2 years ago and has had a new powerflow exhaust less than 1 year ago. Now I probably sound dumb but what is the paperclip test? I have ordered a haines manual so hopefully when that arrives I might be able to know what some stuff is from pics in there. Now I do sound dumb as haha. Have just discovered that when engine is hot and fan is on that the car stalls if stationary. It dont rain it pours.
Again thanks for your responses.

I had something similar on my 3.0. Turns out the fuse for the low speed fans had blown, so the engine got warmer than normal then the high speed fan came on. As this fan started the engine nearly stalled. Turns out my battery was on its last legs, when the fan came on it drew a lot of amps causing the voltage to drop and the ECU to have a hissy fit.

Check the fuses under the bonnet in the box by the battery , make sure none have blown.
