Title: Clonky Gearbox
Post by: coop1952 on 23 August 2010, 23:57:07
My 2002 V6 Omega has started to have a problem with the gearbox. From being lovely and smooth, it now seems to jerk when changing gear. Also when I put it into reverse gear first thing in the morning, it takes about a couple of seconds before it seems to engage and move backwards. I had the oil changed and topped up about 2 months ago at about 97,000 miles. Any ideas?

Mine also takes a couple of secs before it takes off in the mornings. My local mechanic told me I should wait before selecting drive or reverse to allow the transmission fluid to circulate, seems this is normal.

As for the jerky gear changing, I would check the fluid level again.

Would agree on the rechecking of the fluid level.  Sounds like its not quite right, given that its already been changed alongwith filters and such....

From my experience, definitely sign of a fault somewhere.

None of my Auto's (of significantly higher mileage) have developed this problem.

My newest acquisition does tend to hold onto first and is reluctant to change to second when the weather is cold though  :-/
