Yes, with no assistance whatever.....well I did have to phone Mark a couple of time...well that's not quite true.....I drove to Nottingham and did it on his drive whilst he watched from his window....well that's not quite true either.....he stood next to me and guided me through it.
OH! ALRIGHT....HE DID IT FOR ME WHILST I WATCHED.
Thank's Mark, very much appreciated. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Happy to help, I trust it was running fine on the way home.

Perfect.

Did Mark hold all the tools for you as well AA, remove all the bits , replace cambelt, replace all removed items and drive car home for you :D
-
Congrats, nice feeling when it's done ;)
-
After I finshed this little job.....I then checked and ground in 12 valves for Mervs replacement heads......

Well, I was going to do it myself, but in the end I guided Mark through it ;D
He learns ever so quickly ;D

Cheers Mark, Sounds like you and Pete have been doing an amazing Job. Can't wait to get back behind the wheel of a real car!! Time to bounce the OH BUGGER post and sort out the logistics, and who is coming along!

Well Done Mark and Auto Addict reminds me of when i did mine, satisfying to know its been done right :) [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Well done Mark. It is reassuring to know that you are there [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]

Well done, another wad of dosh kept from the hands of the vx stealers [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
And while were on the subject of cambelts on 4pots.
Ive been wondering this for a while now.....
It is as crucial to use a locking kit on 4pots?
I watched my local garage (not vx) do one on one of my veccys
They marked the pullies with tipex and also on the casing.....the tipex marks were double check by another mechanic before the belt came and again after the new belt was fitted.
I guess doing it this way you wouldnt know if the belt that came off was on correctly to start with, which i assume you can tell with a locking kit.
Any other advantages using a locking kit?
Cheers

You have no chance of the top two cams spinning if locked in place with the locking kit.
Sounds dodgy the way they did the veccy

Bloody muppets dont know what they are doing clearly......you dont need to add marks as they are already there on the cam and backplate.
The tool is to stop the cam spinning and resulting in valve damage.....there is no timing adjustment on the 4 pot in the same way as there is on the 6 cylinder and beleave me...they can spin......bloody fast and hard to!
The biggest problem last night was fitting the belt, they are petty tight and require the crank to be spot on with the right hand belt run nice and tight.
Took about 1.5 hours taking it steady and chnaging water pump etc at the same time.
-
1.5hrs?? :o
Seen you rebuild the top end of a V6 in less time than that! ;)
-
Did the cam belt on my old 4 pot without a locking tool. One cam kept trying to slip back a bit but a 12" persuader worked ok. Hadn't even found the "other" site at that time.
Things are so much better now.

Leave him alone....I won't have a word said against him. :-?

Oh rite cheers Mark, summat else learned [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Perhaps thats why they are cheap then ::)
It took em about 3hrs.....2 1/2 getting the water pump out.....it was nicely corroded in (been weeping a bit) after 160k miles of never been changed....they ended up smashing it out bit by bit! For Cambelt kit change and water pump (i supplied the bits) £50.

I am so glad I didn't attempt to change the cambelt myself, I realise now, at my age some jobs are behond my capabilities and confidence level.
When I was younger, jobs like this I would have taken in my stride, but alas, not any more. :(
Thank you again Mark.
