Okay just spent half the day fitting new leads to the V6, found the short on no 6, it was the cap shorting next to the plug - no wonder I couldn't see it.
Put everything back together and I have a spare breather pipe which I can't find a home for. It doesn't belong on the back of the plenum - it's about 1cm diameter, thick walled, shiny, rises from deep behind the engine centrally above the bell housing, no part number in it, no clip. The natural bend on it makes it look like it wants to live around back of left cylinder bank.
Just dimantled everything again and still can't find anywhere to put it.
I removed the wiper motor wonder if I pulled it off then when trying to wiggle assembly out?
Going back out for another look, but am starting to reach limits of patience, so may wait for results of combined forum wisdom
