Title: Misfire

Hi
2 weeks ago my 2.0 DOHC misfired and virtually stopped while driving. fault codes where crank sensor/cam sensor/MAF and coil. Thinking it was crank I changed the sensor and for a day it ran Ok. Next day it was worse and only just managed to get it home, it was firing on 3 cyl then 2 then 4 would not tickover and then it went Ok for a bit albeit with dash light on.Same codes were present so I changed MAF for a known good one and changed DIS and plug leads.Started up Ok but when warm on tickover engine just stopped ,started Ok but still has misfire now and then especially under load - it just cuts out.Have ordered a cam sensor and will try that. Has anyone got any ideas what it could be before I have to take it to garage and Tech 1. Could crank sensor not be seated properly ? Just a thought, anyone come across this before. Any help gratefully recieved as its driving me mad

If it struggles to start and runs like a bag of spanners and you're getting the cam sensor code up (first normally) then that's what it'll be :y

Thanks for the reply wellung666. It starts Ok and runs sweet for a bit then just starts running like a bag of spanners for a bit with lots of misfiring. Cam sensor code does come up (not first one though). Will let you know how it goes

Update on my misfire

Looks like it was the coil pack. Had 4 fault codes show on paperclip test one of them was this. Driven it today with no problems - try driving again in morning from cold and hopefully all will be OK.One problem I had today was an oil leak (it has never had one before) it was the oil pressure switch, £4.70 from motor factor. God they leak a lot of oil when they fail. So fingers crossed for tomorrows drive LOL. Will let you all know what happened. Cam sensor not arrived yet but will fit it when it does

Weve had a hell of a lot of rain here, do you park facing down hill?

Either way, pop off the ecotec cover and check the plug wells for filling with water  :y

im having the same problem with my escort rs2000 engine 16v dohc. it just starts up like a bag of spanners and runs crappy, cuts out n misfires. ive changed coil packs, wiring fo coil packs, changed spark pkugs, SDIS plug, MAP sensor n still no joy. any ideas?

I have just changed the cam sensor on my 2.0 litre XEV Omega. The engine does run smoother and so far no engine light on speedo.Mine started Ok but when at running temp problems started. On yours check if it has a cam sensor and even a crankshaft sensor - thats were I would be looking. Sorry thats all I can give you
