Title: Coolant Level Low Warning - very concerned :-(
Post by: Wayne on 26 August 2010, 01:44:50
Hi guys!
yep! ive still got my Omega, now use it for a 28 mile run to and from work everyday
im driving at 60 mph there and back and im getting 30 mpg, which i suppose aint bad really
as you know i had suspected head gasket problem, but shes been fine.. drives fine, though i do get a smell of a slight burning everytime i drive her, my rocker cover gaskets were changed by Vauxhall about 18 months ago, or maybe longer, cant remember the exact date to be honest
however.... for the last 3 - 4 months, i am now getting COOLANT LEVEL LOW on the display, and i have to top it up with the red stuff, but not a great deal, maybe half to a full cup

i`m a bit concerned with having to keep topping her up, i cant see any leaks anywhere under the engine,

any ideas??

Check rounf the HBV, seems it's the most common issue on the mig regards leaks.

Is it a top up every day.

Rocker covers, they could well be leaking again if Vx didnt torque them down correctly  :-/

ive had a new HBV fitted already mate
rocker cover gaskets should be fine as i have none of the normal "steam and mist" rising from the bonnet like i used to get when rocker gaskets went,  just a faint smell of burning,  though me cars always smelt like this, it kind of smells "hot" if that makes sense?
then again, i think the Omega V6 Engine runs bloody hot anyway?
