Title: recommended grease for storage of mechanical parts
Post by: humbucker on 31 August 2010, 21:54:51
hi all

anyone got recommendation(s) regarding the kind of grease you can use for, say, camshafts and other types of mechanical parts while theyre being stored out of an engine? is vaseline good enough for this kind of thing?

A  generous coat of warmed Waxoil or similar should suffice.  About £20 from most factors. Plough shares were traditionally treated with a lanolin based compound when out of use and generally stored in the open. I understand the stuff is still available but a tad on the expensive side. I can't see why vaseline should not work though.

WD40.....spray it well and then wrap them in cling film.

Its the one thing WD40 is quite good at  ;D
