Title: Burnt oil smell in car
Post by: Sixstring on 01 September 2010, 10:48:12
Recently getting a smell of burnt oil in the car.

Last time I had that, the dispack was on the way out, so fitted another one. Now the smell is back, but examination of the dispack shows perfectly ok. No leaks from camcovers present (ALWAYS clean breathers every oil change, about 4k) and cant find any traces of oil on manifolds. Car has done 156k, and uses no oil, water, or smokes at all.  Mostly do long journeys on motorways, and doesn't always smell.

Any ideas fellers/ladies??

Thanks.

Mike.

It doesn't take much oil to create a bad smell.

Not gearbox / diff oil being thrown out onto the exhaust from a leaking seal, perhaps?
