Saw a post regarding cleaning fuel pump on diesel so was wondering has anyone done it on petrol mig and is it necessary (lots of garbage in the tank)?

There is a very good "How-to" on the Diesel version. Petrol is the same job, and I suspect the same amount of crud to clean out.

I did see the how to for diesel but want to know did anyone did it on petrol.
Was hoping petrol should have less dirt inside
-
I have to say I would imagine the petrol wouldn't suffer like the diesel does - petrol is much more of a solvent than diesel, and doesn't 'wax' like diesel does and turn to jelly in the bottom of the pump.. and the strainer(s) should keep any rust or crud out in the petrol - although it can't hurt to clean that out of the tank.

Ok guys thanks for the replies

Today I opened my petrol pump, hard work and there was hardly dirt, not worth the work

Brill, at least you know your pump is clean. :y

Isn't there an in-line fuel filter after the fuel leaves the pump/tank?
Is that cleanable or a replacement item?
Is it straightforward to do?

There is a fuel filter under the car near the back drivers side wheel (on Vauxhall's) There is a how to in the mainenance section for the estate, think saloon is similar.
