Title: Geoff Capes needed for steering!

Can anyone help please....
I was just due to pack the Omega ready for out summer holiday, i turned it round ready to load and bang something made a popping noise a bit of graunching from under the bonnet and the steering went so heavy i had to hang from the wheel to move it. So i parked it up and we ended up coming in the wifes car  >:(
I would like to hope its a fuse, but im pretty sure its not. I had a quick look under the bonnet and the aux belt is ok ( was replaced not so long ago) and the fluid is high and no leaking anywhere.
The pump has been noisey a bit recently and the steering a little heavy on idle but nothing drastic. I was just going to order a pump online ready to fit on my return but my step dad has just thrown into the equation something about a steering box? could this have failed instead?.
How easy are both of these to change??

Sounds very likely to be the power steering pump at fault Matt.

Seems like the innards have failed - especially as you say that the belt is okay.
Is the pulley is rotating with the engine running? (and the belt's not slipping around it).

There is a fuse (as you were hoping thats all it was) and it also covers the climate control on the Mini FL models and it covers the speed assistance on the power steering so seems a lot heavier when fuse blown.

But this sounds to severe just to be a fuse.

Thank you. The pulley is rotating, although it doesnt sound quite right, i did think it was the pump but wanted to be sure before i changed it. I wasnt sure if they were the sort of thing to fail?

Probably not generally but if ever there has been fluid loss then that could change long term trliability.

Phew......I had similar problems, thankfully just a blown fuse, seems odd having cigarette lighter, heated seats AND power steering on the same fuse........my CB into the fag lighter must have been the problem.
