Title: Oil leak from sunroof!!!!
Post by: megaomega123 on 02 September 2010, 13:10:39
I noticed today, a small crack in the casing beside the sunroof control dial. When I press around the crack an oily, clear liquid appears. (I know how this sounds but bear with me). There is obvious staining all around the dial too. Clear, oily and odourless.
Is there a component in the sunroof mechanism that would produce this? It looks as though the crack has appeared because of the liquid, almost like a water leak onto a ceiling.   mmmmmm any takers :question :D

I can only think of a bearing packed with grease, becoming runny in hot weather. Perhaps someone has sprayed oil into the mechanism to free things off.  ::)

Had the car for 2.5 years now so doubt the latter. Bearing could be somewhere to start. Only noticed today, so not had it apart yet. No big worry just seeing if anybody had experience, to save me some time.  :y

That's the built in sunscreen applicator for hot climates.. being older technology, of course, it's the oily kind of sunscreen rather than the new invisible mist kind... :P
