Title: Changing Engine/gearbox to newer model
Post by: Brown Windsor on 31 August 2010, 14:03:26
Hi all,

I have an2.5TDi CDX auto (S reg) and want to move the engine and gearbox to a facelift model (02/03/04 etc). Can this be done and should I get a petrol auto as the base for the change?

Any help greatly accepted!

someone's already asked this.

I think we said that it's possible, but a whole lot of work.

if you need to pay someone to do it, think £4K or thereabouts.

it's not really the engine swap per se, its all the other stuff that goes with it or not, such as the interface to the car's electrical systems.

Nice little weekend project for me I think. Or would have been.

Well, the 2.5TD engine witrh its box will certainly fit. You will need the ECU too. But it isn't just that simple - We are talking Omega here.

First off, what is the exact model of the later car? You cannot easily change a 3.2v6 to a 2.5TD without a major amount of work. Fuel tank, pipes, loom etc etc.

I have done this 99 model V6 to 2.5 TD and it really is a lot of work, I have been without a car for 4 weeks now.

Later tonight I will post a potted history of the stuff I have had to do, but certainly the worst part was sorting the electrics

BTW I still don't have a moving vehicle (It does start but not move yet)

Oh and the real clincher is that the body shell is different, I have had real problems mounting the autobox and various coolers. I still have to work out how to secure the self leveling pump. It's under the front wing on a petrol, but it and it's wiring move to just behind the autobox somewhere on a TD.

Not that I would want to put you off, but don't expect it to be easy  :D
