Hello
I have a broken rear spring right at the bottom.
My Omega is a 3.0L Elite with self leveling suspension, are these
different fom other Omega saloons
BB :(

Yup
The S/L ones are a bit softer it would seem, but also longer (is this to ensure they are always compressed, even with suspension fully pumped up?)
-
They are softer.
VX ones are quite pricey but apparently KYB do them. There was a thread about this a couple of weeks ago. Do a search and it lists the parts numbers. I would do it but my superfast broadband is emulating third world dial up speed.
Need replacing in pairs (stating the obvious)

they are softer because the damper also performs part of the springing medium.
obviously, this is a moot point if your self-levelling no longer works.
and yes, pairs ONLY

Self leveling still works
What would happen if harder springs were fitted.
BB :-?

I replaced mine with standard, good quality springs and all seems pretty good :y

I got mine through Autovaux. They were made by Sachs and MUCH cheaper than Vauxhall.

Some non-VX springs are actually better as they do not taper the ends (which is where the originals break off)

Hi, having just failed my MOT due to both rear springs apparently being broken I am intrigued by the comment "Some non-VX springs are actually better as they do not taper the ends". When I felt the end of the spring it felt taped (& rusty!) could it be that the examiner was expecting a cut off end and in fact both are OK? One side was easier to access than the other, but both issues were at the bottom end - suspicious/unusual?
I guess my options are to (1) go somewhere else or (2) fit new springs (and claim the free re-test).
Having studied the How2, instead of dropping the rear diff etc is it possible to use spring compressors?
Would slightly shorter (20cm) compressors be easier to manage in the small space than, say, 30cm?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

Am sure someone said they put MV6 spring on thier S/L Elite and had no problems.
Must admit, I would like to fit firmer springs on mine.
