Title: Flat Battery AGAIN!!!
Post by: jim351 on 10 September 2010, 20:57:13
hi all, im having a problem with the battery on my Elite, after not using it for a few days last week the battery was flat, i jumped it then went for a drive for about 20 miles mostly motorway and all was fine, well after fitting a new crank sensor on wednesday i took it for a drive for about 30 miles and it started after with no problem, i went to use it today and there was only just ehough power to open the doors, but nothing when i tried to start it, this is the third time this has happened! im going to look at it tomorrow but is this a common thing with omega's?

Got a voltmeter?  If not, get one (doesn't need to be expensive) and then read this:

No, no more than on any other car.

Your problems could be one of 3 things:

1.  You have a circuit remaining open using current from the battery

2.  The alternator is not charging your battery at a high enough rate

3.  The battery is not holding charge because it is duff

If nothing seems to be obviously left on then for now discount 1.  Look at the battery next; how old is it? :-/

the battery is just over a year old, it was put on just before i got the car, a friend had this sort of problem on his primera the other week, and it was the alternator at fault...

That looks more likely now.  Check the belt for tightness. ;) ;)

Did you install any after market accessories lately?  If you did, some of these can keep the BCM alive and draining.  I had this issue when I tried to install a so called compatible CD changer in mine.

Just a wild thought!

ditto all the above .... once youve checked battery and alternator charge, check interior lights, boot light etc... are going out  :y - least you can eliminate them -  i once had a boot light staying on when boot shut  :y but more likely its suspect battery or alternator - hope you get it sorted  :y
