Title: wheel bolt cover plate
Post by: Kneepad on 16 September 2010, 21:56:56

I knocked off the head of the securing bolt with a chisel.
Couldn't undo the threaded part from the wheel.
Tried to drill into it to use a screw extractor and broke the drill bit.
Can't grip with pliers or molegrips.

Any suggestions

I've no idea what you have in front of you but a hammer and centre-punch can often walk a headless screw out if you hit as near to perimeter as you dare and at an angle to drive anti-clockwise.

Thanks Chris, but I did have a go at that it just
chewed it up more. If it had been a larger diameter
I may well have had more success with that method.   :y

I'm now contemplating drilling into it through the
back of the with wheel, first with a drill larger than the
diameter of the hole and then with a smaller one.
Hoping that the broken drill is not all the way through
the bolt.

Use a cobalt drill bit

Ok, Thanks, I'll give that a try, before any more butchery.
Just ordered a couple of bits from Toolstation.   :y
