Title: Oil in Plug Wells - Cause misfire?
Post by: nordic on 18 September 2010, 19:22:53
I have a small amount of oil in the plug wells. Not enough to reach the plug leads. Would this small amount of oil be enough to cause a misfire? Or should I look elsewhere?

The car has had:-

New Plugs
New Leads
New Coil Pack
New Crankshaft Sensor
I am going to replace the camcover gaskets but wanted to know if such a small amount of oil could cause a misfire?

Cheers,

Andy :-/

Easy way to tel if its causing a misfire is to take a plug out that's covered in oil and see if it sparks...Had his problem on mine and it was caused by oil leaking from rocker gaskets

If, as you say, the plug leads are not covered in oil then it's pretty unlikely this will be causing your mis-fire - have you checked for any codes (paperclip test etc.)

Thanks - checked 'Paperclip Test' and get Code 13.

Yet, this code only appears when the ignition key is turned - NOT when I do the test with the engine running!

Lets start with the basics;

You know the gaskets are leaking so replace them.

ENSURE you clean the breathers and breather box and then report back.
