Twice in last 2 days my ABS & TC amber warning lamps have come on & stayed on whilst driving under normal conditions... As soon as I restart the car they both display briefly with the other check lamps and go out as they should & stay off? If there is an ABS fault would they not stay on each time I use the car? any help appreciated :y

When they are illuminated, does the speedo function?
-
This may be the start of Abs Ecu failure :(
Does the speedo stop working as well :question

Paperclip it and see if the error shows up there.

They come on shortly after starting a run, half mile or so down the road... speedo still works fine when they illuminate. first time it happened I just waited til I was at a set of traffic lights, cut the engine, restarted & they disappeared (& stayed off). came on again today half mile into a run stayed on til I cut the engine. did 2 or 3 short runs after this & didn't come back on?

Hi, I have been told I am wrong, but this was my experience.
I had the TC and ABS lights coming on intermittantly. Turned out to be a bad earth to a rear brake light. Cleaned it and all is fine now.
I do agree it could be the start of an ecu failure, but gotta be worth a check first.

thats how mine started just the lights at first
then speedo
and after that power steering starts playing up now that is the killer bit
and i had to get the spanners out
mine was always garanteeed to be fine allthe drive to you needed to park and get out of the carpark
then would start working again not fun trying to steer a mig with a bad back and neck and no power steering

I don't have TC, but my ABS light comes on very occaisionally. Turning the ignition off & on removes it. Been doing this for a year or so. Speedo works without problems.
As it's very infrequent & not getting worse I've not bothered to investigate further. My guess is a poor connection to one of the speed sensors.
My understanding is that while the ABS light is on, the ABS is disabled!

thanks :y

A code reader capable of reading ABS may be worthwhile, but I don't think it will show anything. And that means a knackered ECU normally, particularly on post 1998 ones

Thanks TB might ask Razzo if I can give it a crack on the Opel Scanner, mine is pre '98 so might be ok :y
