Post by: spudmariner on 24 September 2010, 17:33:10
Hi all, I'm thinking of buying a  52 plate omega gls 2.2dti estate this weekend and I'm getting conflicting views on whether its a cam belt or chain. Can someone please settle this as althogh it has a fsh I don't know the change intervals. Thanks. Graham

2.2 petrol = belt
2.2 diesel = chain

Thanks very much for your answer. Any other weaknesses on these that I should look out for? After my last V6 finally curled it's toes up I want to get back in an Omega but I do 40000 miles a year.

Nope, regular oil changes and keep on top of fuel filter changes and draining.

It will be as good as the last owner

Thanks for all your help. Looks like I'm off to Cheltenham tomorrow to pick it up then. The timing chain finally convinced me as I hate rubber time bombs! Just had one go on a Renal Slaguna that was only 9000 miles old!

I prefer them, change them as per service schedules and they are reliable....chains are more of a time bomb  :y
