Title: 2.5td egr solenoid

just a quick question, does this egr solenoid only open on deceration/when throttle is let off???its a 95 2.5td

No, It's not as simple as that. The EGR is controlled by the ECU depending on engine conditions and fuel/air requirements.

From the book of words:
The EGR system does not operate when starting the
engine, at engine overrun or when the engine is at full
load. The ECU may also prevent EGR system
operation if the electrical signal from the MAF sensor
is insufficient or if a given speed or injection volume is
exceeded.

basically it is used when on cruise or a light throttle opening
to maintain speed, it then opens egr to cool combustion chamber which produces NOX at high combustion temps and improve economy, however nox is so difficult to measure that it isnt even tested on the mot!!

sorry to highjack can anyone tell me where the egr vac hose connects to is it the small black sensor or the bigger one below :-[ :-[

What exactly is meant by 'NOX'???  :-? :-?
