What,s best for flushing the engine thru to get rid of sludge after HG failure?
-
You can buy proprietry degreasers for this, but the word on the forum is that a low suds washing powder will do the job quite adequately.
Edit: Don't use powder. Liquid or gel premixed.

Lo-suds biological powder, mixed outside the car.... fill system, run until hot with heater on max hot, switch off, leave to soak overnight. Flush very thoroughly - including running until hot. Repeat daily for about a week !!
Takes a while but does work ... eventually !!

I've never tried this but it seems to me that dishwasher powder dissolves a lot of grease pretty efficiently. It is certainly low on suds and is designed works at a pretty high water temperatures.
Obviously you would still have to mix it outside the car as Entwood says.
Anybody tried this?
:question

Thanks for the replies.Think I,ll stay with a branded degreaser.

Use Gunk or Jizer or similar proprietry degreaser. Needs lots of flushing, probable repeated applications, but will EVENTUALLY clear.
Heard some folks used fernox, the central heating water system stuff, with some success as well...

What about " greased lightning "
Heard good reports?
Anybody used this? :y
